Kihon Happo - Henka - Torite Goho Gata - Ninjutsu

Kihon Happo - Henka - Torite Goho Gata - Ninjutsu

Here are some "henka" (variations of standard forms) of the Torite Goho Gata from the Kihon Happo. More Kihon Happo henka using weapons or objects could also be demonstrated. There are unlimited possibilities of "henka" for any maneuver and these are just a few examples. In Ninjutsu, and especially Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, every standard core form should be understood as meerly a starting point, an essence. From this essence, once you understand it, you can shape the technique to fit any need when in any self-defense situation. In training, we practice "henka" to learn more about utilizing the core forms and their variations to be ready for real-life scenarios.

Kihon Happo, Torite Goho Gata, is a foundation for ninjutsu grappling movement. It contains the basis for initiating many grappling and hands-on responses to strikes and other attacks.  Learning to vary the angle, distance and timing of the movement of Kihon Happo will help you understand the physics of your body in motion and the infinite possibilities of all movement in the art of Ninjutsu.  Understanding the essence of these maneuvers is a key to understanding how to train in the art.

There are many variations about how to translation the meaning of the words, some are literal and some are highly conceptual.  On this website you will see the more literal style of translation.  Kihon Happo means "The Eight Basic Ways" and is divided into two categories, Torite Goho Gata & Koshi Kihon Sanpo. Torite Goho Gata translates as "The Five Forms of Grappling," Koshi Kihon Sanpo translates as "The Three Basic Ways of Striking."The Koshi Kihon Sanpo kata are Ichimonji no kata, Hicho no kata and Jumonji no kata. Torite Goho Gata maneuvers are Omote Gyaku, Ura Gyaku, Musha Dori, Ganseki Nage, Omote Gyaku Ken Sabaki Gata.
